Margarito Castro Dead, Savaughn Barnes Arrested in Hit-And-Run Accident on State Street and Dillon Avenue

 
SAN JACINTO CA (December 7, 2022) — A 21-year-old Hemet man identified as Margarito Castro, of San Jacinto, died in a hit-and-run crash.
 
According to San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, the incident took place at the intersection of State Street and Dillon Avenue at 8:21 p.m. on Sunday, December 4.
 
Witnesses said Castro stood in the center median on State Street with his bicycle. Then a white Hyundai entered the center median, moving southbound at high speeds. The Hyundai hit the victim, and the driver fled southbound on State Street.
 
Sgt. Dawn Blair of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said officers found Castro lying in the roadway. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Another witness told deputies the license plate of the Hyundai. It led deputies to the suspect and the car to a Hemet address.
 
Officials arrested Savaughn Jojuan Colon Barnes in the 1900 block of Acacia Avenue in Hemet. They booked him at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and set his bail at $100,000.
