Marcus Winkfield Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 104 near Clay Station Road

 
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (August 18, 2023)Marcus Winkfield died in a head-on accident on Highway 104 near Clay Station Road Thursday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-car crash happened around 5:19 a.m. Traveling at a high rate of speed, 53-year-old Winkfield was seen crossing over double yellow lines and traveling in the wrong way through a curve in the road. Subsequently, Winkfield’s Honda Civic slammed into a 2016 Dodge Ram traveling in the opposite direction. Due to the impact, his vehicle rolled over.
 
Winkfield — a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officer at Mule Creek State Prison — passed away at the scene. The 35-year-old driver of the Dodge complained of pain in his back and refused medical transportation.
 
Authorities do not have any other details surrounding what caused the collision. However, they have ruled out alcohol and drugs as contributing factors. Those with information can call the CHP.
