Manuel Gutierrez Involved in Police Chase Crash on Highway 58 in Tehachapi

 
TEHACHAPI, CA (June 15, 2021) – Police identified Manuel Gutierrez as the suspect who suffered injuries following a fatal head-on crash on Highway 58 on June 13.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Broome Road around 11:30 PM.
 
Based on a report, a Barstow police pulled over Manuel Gutierrez’s blue 1999 Chevy for a routine traffic stop. However, the vehicle fled and a chase began. Then, Mojave Area officers took over the pursuit near the Kern County line in the Boron Area. It continued to the City of Tehachapi, where the suspect vehicle exited Highway 58 and traversed numerous surface streets. Subsequently, it collided head-on with a 2010 Nissan Murano that was traveling eastbound on the highway.
 
As a result, a passenger in the Nissan, a 62-year-old woman from Tehachapi, died at the scene. Officials did not yet release her name pending kin notification. The driver of the Nissan, a 63-year-old man, suffered major injuries. Gutierrez also suffered major injuries.
 
In the end, officials arrested him. After hospitalization, they will book him into Kern County Jail for numerous charges related to the crash.
