Bicyclist Suffers Major Injuries after Hit by Car on Willow Road in San Ysidro Neighborhood

 
SAN YSIDRO, CA (February 9, 2024) – A 30-year-old man was seriously injured in a bicycle accident on Willow Road in the San Ysidro neighborhood of San Diego late Wednesday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 5:41 p.m. on February 7. According to the San Diego Police Department, the man was riding a mountain bicycle southbound on the east sidewalk of 200 Willow Road. For unknown reasons, he rode off the sidewalk and into the northbound lane.
 
A 20-year-old man driving northbound in a 1996 Honda Accord then hit the bicycle head-on.
 
As a result of the crash, the bicyclist suffered major injuries, including an open right femur fracture, a fractured hand, a laceration above the right eye and a concussion. His two teeth were also knocked out.
 
The Honda driver and his passengers were not injured.
 
SDPD Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
