Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train on Meekland Avenue in Hayward

 
HAYWARD, CA (September 3, 2021) – A man died in a train accident on Meekland Avenue Thursday morning in Hayward.
 
The accident happened around 7:10 a.m. on September 2, near the Hayward Amtrak Station at 22555 Meekland Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was walking on railroad tracks when a Capitol Corridor Train No. 524 heading from San Jose to Sacramento struck him.
 
The impact caused the pedestrian fatal injuries and he died at the scene.
 
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once it is confirmed and family members are notified.
 
Amtrak officials said none of the 13 passengers on the train or any crew members were injured.
 
After the crash, the train was delayed for almost two hours while police investigated the fatality.
