Fatal Pedestrian Accident on 580 Freeway in Livermore

 
LIVERMORE, CA (September 3, 2021) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian accident on 580 Freeway in Livermore early Thursday morning.
 
The accident happened around 4:00 a.m. on September 2, near the Las Colinas Road overcrossing. According to the CHP, the female pedestrian was walking on the right shoulder of westbound 580 Freeway. For unknown reasons, she walked into the traffic lanes where a 2013 Ford Explorer struck her.
 
As a result, the woman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only identified her as a 52-year-old Livermore resident.
 
The driver of the SUV, a 56-year-old Lathrop man, remained on scene and cooperated with police.
 
It is still unknown why the woman was walking on the freeway. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
