Scooter Rider Dies after Struck by Car on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (June 16, 2023) – A man was killed in a scooter accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach Tuesday evening on June 13.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:44 p.m. at Cerritos Avenue, just west of Long Beach City College. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the man was riding an electric scooter.
 
A 2018 Dodge Challenger was traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it struck the man, who was crossing northbound on the highway outside of a crosswalk.
 
Police said the driver of the Dodge was unable to stop or avoid striking the victim.
 
Responding firefighters attempted saving the man, but he died at the scene.
 
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once family members are notified.
 
The driver of Challenger, a 21-year-old Long Beach resident, was not injured. They remained on scene and cooperated with police.
 
Speed, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
