Rollover Crash on Great Southern Overland Stage Route Leaves Driver Dead and Passenger with Major Injuries
JULIAN, CA (June 15, 2023) – A man was killed a rollover accident on Great Southern Overland Stage Route southeast of Julian Friday afternoon last week on June 9.
The fatal accident happened around 3:30 p.m. near Highway 78. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet SSR northbound when he lost control on a curve.
The car veered right and went off the roadway. It then veered left across both traffic lanes and flipped over.
Both the male driver and his front-seat passenger, a 56-year-old woman, were ejected from the car. Neither of them was wearing a seat belt.
As a result, the man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a 61-year-old Julian resident.
The female passenger was airlifted to Desert Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
