Deadly Crash on Highway 152 in Madera County Involves 3 Big Rigs and 3 Cars

 
MADERA COUNTY, CA (January 19, 2024) – A man died in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 152 in Madera County during a foggy Thursday morning on January 18.
 
The fatal accident happened around 6:00 a.m. at Road 9, involving three big rigs and three cars. According to the California Highway Patrol, Arturo Carrillo was driving a big rig carrying tree stakes south on Road 9 and tried to cross the intersection at Highway 152 when an oncoming car hit its trailer. The impact knocked off its haul of tree stakes.
 
The car drove off the shoulder of the roadway. Another big rig drove into the far left lane to avoid the stakes but ended up colliding with an SUV.
 
The stakes in the roadway then created a hazard for other drivers at a time when visibility was very low due to fog.
 
The man in his 30s who was driving the SUV died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
Another driver, a man Fresno man, sustained minor injuries.
 
Officers said fog is likely a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
