Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA (June 13, 2023) — A man died in a motorcycle accident on Highway 1 near Dimeo Lane.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal motorcycle accident happened around 6:16 p.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, an unidentified motorcyclist operating a Kawasaki was passing traffic on the left by crossing the double yellow lines and using the northbound lane. As the southbound Kawasaki traveled just inches behind a 2001 Toyota Solara, the Toyota slowed down to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway. Subsequently, the motorcyclist crashed into the left side of the Toyota, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected from the bike.
The man, a 34-year-old from Santa Cruz, passed away from his injuries. The Toyota driver did not report any injuries in the accident.
Following the investigation, police did not consider impairment as a factor in the crash, but an ongoing investigation should reveal more details.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victim.
