Man Killed, Jonathan Lopez Arrested in DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on North Tustin Street [Orange, CA]

Police Arrest Driver with Four DUI Convictions after Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash in Orange

 
ORANGE, CA (March 13, 2024) – A man died and Jonathan Lopez was arrested in a DUI hit-and-run crash in Orange Tuesday morning on March 12.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 11:20 a.m. in the 300 block of North Tustin Street. According to the Orange Police Department, the 31-year-old suspect of Orange was driving a Toyota when he struck the male pedestrian who was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.
 
After striking the pedestrian, Lopez fled the scene.
 
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
About 10 minutes later, a detective spotted the suspect vehicle with significant front-end damage north on Glassell Street at Katella Avenue.
 
When he tried to pull the driver over, the suspect kept going, leading police on a short pursuit before stopping at Tustin Street south of Adams Avenue.
 
They later arrested Lopez on suspicion of felony DUI, hit-and-run, evading and vehicular homicide.
 
Lopez has four prior convictions for driving under the influence over the past 10 years, police said.
