Man Dies in Mendocino County Head-On Crash on Highway 20

MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (September 29, 2021) — A man died in a head-on accident on Highway 20 near Marina Drive Monday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, a 38-year-old Willits man driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup lost control of his vehicle. Per reports, the man was also hauling a second 2001 Ram truck on a flatbed trailer.

Subsequently, the truck veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a box truck. Due to the nature of the crash, a man who was not wearing a seatbelt died in the accident. His name has been withheld at this time.

Following the incident, paramedics took the 26-year-old Ukiah man driving the box truck to Adventist Health Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits with minor injuries.

At this time, officials have much to investigate. However, CHP does suspect alcohol to have played a factor in the accident.
