ORANGE, CA (December 26, 2022) — A man died after his car crashed and split in half on the 55 Freeway near Katella Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-vehicle accident happened around 10:20 p.m. Friday. Upon arriving, CHP officers found a 2019 Porsche 911 GTS split in two with its engine, gas tank and wheel littering the scene. In addition, they found the driver with fatal injuries.

Following the investigation, authorities learned that the Porsche driver was racing another car on the 55 South Freeway before the driver lost control and struck the center divider. Debris from the accident scattered hundreds of feet across the nearby off-ramp and into a ditch.

At this time, authorities do not have the victim’s name, information on the second driver involved or the cause and factors of the crash. However, an investigation into the incident should reveal more information.
