Two Big Rigs Collide on Henry Miller Avenue in Santa Nella, Man Dies

 
SANTA NELLA, CA (October 19, 2022) – A man died in a big rig accident on Henry Miller Avenue in Santa Nella area of Merced County late Saturday evening, October 15.
 
The accident happened around 11:44 p.m. just east of Cherokee Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 32-year-old Alonso De Jesus Lara of Madera was driving a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia hauling two trailers of tomatoes. He was traveling east on Henry Miller Avenue at about 55 mph.
 
At the same time, the 36-year-old man from Cantua Creek was driving a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia west on Henry Miller with two empty trailers.
 
The right tires on the truck, driven by Lara, drifted onto the south shoulder. This caused him to lose control of the rear trailer, which veered into the westbound lane.
 
The front of the 2020 Freightliner collided with the rear trailer being hauled by De Jesus Lara.
 
As a result of the collision, the man driving the 2020 Freightliner died at the scene.
 
De Jesus Lara was unharmed.
 
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision. Further investigation is underway.
