Man Hurt after Leaping off Santa Maria River Bridge

 
SANTA MARIA, CA (January 25, 2022) — A man was injured after he jumped off the Santa Maria River Bridge near Highway 101 on Friday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. For unknown reasons, a man started driving about 90 miles per hour, which resulted in a brief police chase. As he sped off, he led officers toward Betteravia Road from Union Valley Parkway.
 
Subsequently, the suspect crashed into another driver near the Santa Maria River Bridge and ran away.
 
However, he decided to jump off the bridge into the riverbed. Shortly after, paramedics responded and treated him for major injuries.
 
At this time, the crash requires additional investigation. Although, reports said that several cars became involved in the accident yet no one reported any injuries.
