Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Pickup Truck on 580 Freeway in Richmond

 
RICHMOND, CA (July 19, 2023) – A man was hit and killed by a truck on 580 Freeway in Richmond early Tuesday morning on July 18.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:26 a.m. near Canal Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was walking in the westbound lanes of 580 Freeway when a Chevrolet Silverado truck struck him.
 
The impact caused the man fatal injuries and he died at the scene. His identity was not immediately available pending confirmation of his identity and notification of next of kin.
 
The driver of the Silverado remained on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
 
Crews closed all westbound lanes of the freeway while they worked on the scene.
