Man Struck Dead Following Multi-Car Crash on 5 Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 26, 2023) — A man was hit and killed following a multi-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Highway 163.
 
According to reports, the deadly crash took place around 8:29 p.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a Nissan Altima became disabled in the middle lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway. Subsequently, an oncoming Nissan Versa crashed into it, leaving the Nissan Versa disabled without lights.
 
Four people exited the Nissan Versa before an oncoming BMW 428i crashed into their vehicle. At some point during the impact, two people standing outside the Nissan Versa were hit.
 
Moments later, paramedics arrived and took two people with major injuries to a nearby hospital. However, one of them–a 37-year-old Mexican national–passed away.
 
At this time, authorities do not believe DUI factored into the cause. However, if anyone has more news, please call the California Highway Patrol San Diego Area at (858) 293-6000.
