Driver Killed, Semi-Truck Crashes Into Car on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 5, 2024) — A man died in a semi-truck accident on Highway 99 near Highway 119.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly truck accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a semi-truck driver heading northbound in the slow lane at a speed of 55 miles per hour rear-ended a northbound Toyota Prius. Upon impact, both vehicles came to a stop on the right shoulder.
 
Moments later, paramedics and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene but found the Prius driver with fatal injuries. During the investigation, detectives did not clearly say if the Prius was in the slow lane or right shoulder or if DUI factored into the cause. However, they confirmed that dark and rainy conditions were present at the time.
