Fiery Pursuit Crash in Mountain View Kills Two Children

 
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (December 10, 2023) – Malikai Orozco-Romero and Mason Orozco-Romero were killed in a fiery pursuit crash in Mountain View Friday night on December 8.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. off the 43rd Street exit near the southbound lanes of the 805 Freeway. According to the San Diego Police Department, they were pursuing a BMW that was speeding near 32nd Street and Ocean View Boulevard in Logan Heights.
 
The suspect, 20-year-old Angel Daniel Salgado Velasquez, then crashed into a Honda sedan with four passengers inside. The impact caused both cars to overturn down an embankment and strike a tree. The tree then fell onto the Honda, causing it to catch fire.
 
Velasquez ran away from the scene. However, police were able to catch and arrest him.
 
There were two women in the Honda, a 25-year-old driver and a 29-year-old passenger, and two children.
 
Paramedics performed CPR on the children and rushed them to a hospital.
 
Sadly, both children died at the hospital. Authorities identified Malikai, 8, and his 4-year-old brother Mason as the fatal victims.
 
The women remain in the hospital in unknown conditions.
