Head-On Accident with Semi on National Trails Highway Kills 10-Month-Old Passenger

 
HELENDALE, CA (February 23, 2022) – Liam Gonzalez died in a head-on accident in Helendale on Monday evening.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:16 p.m. on February 22 on National Trails Highway at Hodge Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a pickup truck and a semi truck collided head-on for unknown reasons.
 
San Bernardino County Firefighters immediately responded and pronounced Liam dead at the scene. He was a 10-month-old passenger in the pickup from Helendale.
 
Officers requested a Mercy Air helicopter for two other people trapped in the pickup. Paramedics transported the driver to Antelope Valley Hospital and a second person to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. They were Liam’s mother and his teenage sister.
 
Additionally, emergency workers reported that approximately 30 gallons of fuel that spilled on the right shoulder of the roadway.
 
At this time, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
