Kalob Rice Charged in Fatal, DUI Head-On Crash on Quincy La Porte Road near Woodleaf Tunnel Road

 
YUBA COUNTY, CA (August 17, 2023) — Kalob Rice faces DUI charges following a fatal head-on accident on Quincy La Porte Road near Woodleaf Tunnel Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol Yuba-Sutter office, the two-vehicle crash happened around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. For DUI-related reasons, 22-year-old Kalob Rice steered his southbound 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck into the path of a northbound 1995 Chevrolet Blazer. As a result, both vehicles collided at an unknown speed.
 
Moments after, paramedics confirmed that the 59-year-old Chevrolet driver from Clipper Mills died in the collision. Officials have yet to release the individual’s name. Subsequently, they took Rice, of Dobbins, to a hospital with unknown injuries.
 
In the investigation, police noticed objective signs of drug impairment and arrested Rice. Authorities have him booked into Yuba County jail with DUI causing injury and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
 
At this time, the Yuba sheriff’s office has not released the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
