Fatal Crash on Highway 1 in Sonoma County, DUI Drivers Winter Nason and Joseph Mantua Arrested

 
SONOMA COUNTY, CA (April 14, 2021) – Police arrested Joseph Mantua and Winter Nason after a fatal DUI crash late Saturday evening, April 10.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 1 north of Valley Ford Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan Frontier was traveling southbound while a Dodge truck was heading northbound. The vehicles collided and both came to rest blocking the highway.

Mantua, a 47-year-old Bodega Bay resident, was the driver of the Dodge.

Nason, a 25-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was driving northbound on the highway when he collided with the left side of the Dodge and the rear of the Nissan.

As a result, the Nissan caught fire. The male driver of the Nissan died at the scene, but a male passenger was able to exit the vehicle. The name of the deceased was withheld pending family notification.

Meanwhile, Mantua suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries, while Nason had minor injuries. Paramedics transported them to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Police later found both drivers to be under the influence at the time of the crashes and arrested them.
