73-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Crashing into Stopped SUV in Murrieta
MURRIETA, CA (April 28, 2023) – Josef Binter was killed in a bicycle accident in Murrieta Sunday evening on April 23.
The fatal accident happened around 7:50 p.m. on Whitewood Road, just north of Poinsettia Street. According to the Murrieta Police Department, Binter was riding his bicycle northbound on Whitewood when he failed to see the Chevrolet SUV stopped at a curbside as he entered the intersection.
Police said a 37-year-old woman had stopped the SUV to check on her small child in the rear seat. It was unclear whether her brake lights were illuminated, or if she had engaged her hazard lights.
Binter rear-ended the SUV and went down in the roadway. He suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 73-year-old Murrieta resident.
The driver of the SUV and her child were not injured.
Police are still investigating the crash to determine the factors involved.
