According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened on December 31, at about 11:30 p.m. A speeding SUV allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign in an attempt to flee a separate crash. Then, the SUV hit a family car near Normandie Avenue.
The impact caused the family car to crash into a street sign and a fence.
Emergency crews later pronounced the father, identified as 49-year-old Jose Pascagaza, dead at the scene.
The mother, 30-year-old Luisa Bernal, and their two daughters were transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, Bernal and 5-year-old Mia Pascagaza also succumbed to their injuries.
1-year-old Hannah Pascagaza remains in critical condition.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral costs and to support Hannah’s recovery.
Officers arrested the DUI driver, 22-year-old Isaac Kahiri. He faces murder and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
