Morning Head-On Crash on David Road near Edison Road Kills 1 Driver

 
ARVIN, CA (October 5, 2022) – Jose Ascencion Nieto was killed in a head-on accident in Arvin on Thursday morning, September 29.
 
The fatal accident happened around 6:39 a.m. on David Road, just west of Edison Road. According to the CHP, 66-year-old Gerardo Espinoza of Arvin was driving a Buick Rendezvous westbound on David Road. For unknown reasons, he drove into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on with a Toyota Matrix, driven by Nieto.
 
38-year-old Bakersfield resident Nieto suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics took Espinoza to Kern Medical with minor to moderate injuries.
 
CHP did not rule out alcohol or drugs as factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing. Officers asked anyone with further information to call CHP Bakersfield at 661-396-6600.
