Passenger Dies after Crash with Hit-and-Run Driver Performing Street Stunts in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (June 19, 2023) – Jacqueline Zamarripa was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Long Beach late Friday evening on June 16.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:57 p.m. at Willow Street and Caspian Avenue, just west of the Los Angeles River. According to the Long Beach Police Department, Zamarripa was a passenger in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling westbound on Willow. At the same time, a light-colored silver or tan SUV was being driven in circles in the intersection.
 
The driver of the SUV was doing doughnuts and performing street stunts prior to the crash, police said.
 
The SUV then struck the Chevrolet Silverado, causing the Silverado to lose control and collide with a tree in the center median.
 
Zamarripa suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 21-year-old Long Beach resident.
 
The 20-year-old Carson man driving the Silverado remained on scene and cooperated with police. The SUV driver fled the scene before officers arrived.
 
Speed and distracted driving are believed to be factors in the crash.
