RIVERSIDE, CA (May 18, 2023) — Jacqueline Sweet died when a train hit her near 3rd Street and Commerce Street Wednesday morning.
 
According to the Riverside Police Department, the fatal accident happened around 6:00 a.m. For an unknown reason, 37-year-old Sweet, of Riverside, was walking with a companion near the Union Pacific railroad tracks. Subsequently, an oncoming Metrolink train struck her.
 
Her companion managed to avoid getting hit, reports confirmed. However, authorities did not say why the pair was walking on the tracks since there is an at-grade rail crossing at the intersection with flashing lights and gates to activate when a train is approaching.
 
Officer Ryan Railsback confirmed that there was no suspicious activity involved in this deadly crash. At this time, the Union Pacific Railroad police are looking further into this crash, but if anyone has more insight to share, please call their department.
