Drunk Wrong-Way Driver Causes Deadly Crash on Highway 101 in Paso Robles

 
PASO ROBLES, CA (March 18, 2023) – Isaldo Arellano-Santiago was killed in a DUI wrong-way crash in Paso Robles late Tuesday evening on March 14.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:18 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just north of Wellsona Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Alvaro Alvizo-Diaz of Ventura was driving a 2020 Nissan Sentra the wrong way on Highway 101 when he collided head-on with Arellano-Santiago’s vehicle.
 
Arellano-Santiago was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 38 years old from Oxnard.
 
Alvizo-Diaz sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police later arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
A passenger in his vehicle was treated on scene for pain but refused to be transported to the hospital.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
