Police Arrest Michael Berber after Hitting Officer near Coachella Festival

 
INDIO, CA (April 19, 2022) – A police officer was injured and Michael Anthony Berber was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Indio on Saturday evening.
 
The incident happened around 10:46 a.m. on April 16 at Calle Conejo and Avenue 48, just near the site of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. According to the Indio Police Department, the officer attempted to stop Berber for not following traffic controls put in place for the festival.
 
Berber struck the officer and fled the scene. Paramedics took the officer to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Indio police chased the suspect vehicle westbound on Avenue 48 and then northbound on Jefferson Street. When the suspect merged onto westbound 10 Freeway, the CHP took over the pursuit.
 
The chase continued until the suspect was stopped and arrested at the intersection of Monterey Avenue and Varner Road in Thousand Palms.
 
Police booked Berber on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading/reckless driving, and a probation violation.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
