Helicopter Crashes near Nipton Killing Six People Onboard

 
NIPTON, CA (February 12, 2024) – Herbert Wigwe and Abimbola Ogunbajo were among six people who died in a helicopter crash near Nipton Friday evening on February 9.
 
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Eurocopter EC 130 carrying six people went down on the edge of the Mojave Desert Preserve around 10:00 p.m. The crash site was located east of the 15 Freeway near Halloran Springs Road.
 
The helicopter caught fire upon impact.
 
The aircraft is registered to Orbic Air, a tour company based in Burbank. It departed from Palm Springs Airport around 8:45 p.m. with a destination of Boulder City, Nevada.
 
All six people onboard died in the crash.
 
Wigwe, 57, and Ogunbajo were among those who died. Wigwe was the CEO of Access Holdings and described as a pillar in Nigeria’s financial sector. Ogunbajo was the Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group.

The four other victims were not yet identified.

The NTSB is handling the investigation.
