NOVATO, CA (February 16, 2023)George Buquich faces charges in a DUI multi-car accident on Highway 101 near Ignacio Boulevard.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle collision happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. For DUI reasons, 33-year-old Buquich crashed his Honda fit into a Freightliner tractor-trailer on the northbound highway. Buquich and his passenger fled from the scene.

Soon after, paramedics arrived and brought the truck driver to a hospital with major injuries. The Honda Pilot driver and passenger reported only minor injuries while Buquich and his passenger, whom police found by a nearby on-ramp, reported no wounds.

Buquich is reportedly no longer in custody Monday morning after being booked on suspicion of intoxicated driving and hit-and-run. However, more investigation into this crash should confirm the details.

The risk of an accident increases with alcohol and drug use. If you have plans to drink or take drugs, stay at home or have someone sober drive. Drugs and alcohol compromise your mental state and slow down your responses. Keep this in mind before you get behind the wheel.
