Manhunt Underway After CHP Pursuit Ends in Wrong-Way Crash in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA (January 24, 2023) — The authorities are searching for a suspect involved in a pursuit and wrong-way crash on Highway 94 on Wednesday.

The incident unfolded when CHP officers conducted a routine registration check on a black Toyota Prius on Highway 15. The officers discovered that the car was non-operational based on the list of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Toyota did not yield. Attempting to evade authorities, it exited the freeway on 30th Street and ran a stop sign. It subsequently executed a U-turn onto the cloverleaf on-ramp and then re-entered westbound Highway 94.

The CHP initiated a pursuit after broadcasting a failure to yield. In an attempt to evade, the Toyota driver went the wrong way on westbound Highway 94 and then collided with a silver Nissan Altima.

The collision rendered both vehicles disabled, and the suspect fled on foot towards F and 32nd streets. As of Wednesday morning, the suspect remains at large, and no arrest has been made.

Meanwhile, four individuals involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders promptly transported them to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Traffic stops demand caution from both officers and drivers. For drivers, adhere to instructions, keep your hands visible, and communicate clearly. Officers should approach with care, while drivers are advised to remain calm and follow instructions.
