Car Hits Firefighters Responding to Minivan Crash on Highway 101 in Gaviota

 
GAVIOTA, CA (March 30, 2023) — Firefighters were among eight people injured in a Highway 101 accident near Nojoqui Grade.
 
According to County fire spokesperson Scott Safechuck, the incident happened Wednesday. Around 5:00 a.m., a minivan reportedly crashed on Highway 101. Soon after, First Responders arrived at the scene, but two firefighters were hit by a vehicle while tending to the crash.
 
Both firefighters suffered major injuries and six others sustained minor injuries. Paramedics transported all patients to Marion Regional Medical Center for care.
 
Due to the accident, authorities closed the highway in both directions until noon. As of now, officials have no information on what drove the first and second crashes. However, we will update this report once we receive more information.
