Ezequiel Sanchez and Another Man Dead in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 at Cannon Road

AROMAS, CA (December 13, 2022) — A 28-year-old man identified as Ezequiel Sanchez, of Gonzales, died in a multi-car crash caused by a tree.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a eucalyptus tree fell onto Highway 101 Southbound at Cannon Road at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 11. CHP units discovered that the tree landed on top of a Toyota Prius, blocking all lanes of the highway.

The primary investigation discovered that the Prius moved in the slow lane. Then the tree fell on top of it. The tree stayed suspended several feet above the ground, obstructing the roadway.

After the initial crash, a black GMC Sierra moving in the fast lane hit the tree. It caused major damage to the front windshield and the cab of the vehicle.

A BMW, also in the fast lane, also hit the tree. The impact caused damage to the front windshield and the cab of the car.

The driver of the GMC Sierra and a passenger in the BMW died in the crash. Officials identified one of the deceased as Sanchez and the other as a 50-year-old man from Arizona.

The driver and passengers of the Toyota Prius suffered moderate to major injuries.
