Eric Samayoa Unharmed, Carolina Serrano, Children Injured in Deadly Rollover Accident on 5 Freeway [Willows, CA]

Eric Samayoa Uninjured , Carolina Serrano, Juveniles Hospitalized in Fatal Rollover Crash on 5 Freeway near County Road 57

 
WILLOWS, CA (October 16, 2023) — Eric Samayoa evaded injury in a deadly rollover accident on the 5 Freeway near County Road 57.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened at approximately 4:45 a.m. Friday. For an unknown reason, a southbound 2000 Chevy shuttling seven people drifted onto the 5 Freeway’s center median. Subsequently, 31-year-old Eric Samayoa, of Hoquiam, Wash., noticed the trajectory of the vehicle and applied the brakes. From there, the car swerved back onto the southbound lanes and rolled over several times before plowing through a fence and landing on its top.
 
Moments later, paramedics and police arrived to find one person — the only occupant not wearing a seatbelt — with fatal injuries.
 
Three people — including a 6-year-old boy brought to UC Davis in Sacramento and a 10-year-old girl taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico — suffered major injuries. Meanwhile, paramedics brought 29-year-old Carolina Serrano to Adventist Health and Rideout Hospital in Marysville.
 
While Samayoa evaded injury, a 5-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy suffered minor wounds.
 
Authorities did not release information on the fatal victim or the factors leading to the crash. However, if anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
