Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 1 Near Vandenberg SFB

 
VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, CA (April 24, 2024) — A multi-vehicle collision on Highway 1 left four individuals hospitalized, with one later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
 
The incident occurred on April 16 around 5:56 p.m., south of San Antonio Road West. According to the California Highway Patrol-Buellton Area (CHP), a 21-year-old Lompoc resident was driving his 2016 Ford Fiesta northbound on Highway 1. Simultaneously, a 20-year-old Lompoc resident was traveling southbound in her 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Fiesta drifted into oncoming southbound traffic, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.
 
Additionally, two other southbound vehicles, a 2022 Toyota Highlander and a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, were unable to avoid the crash and became involved in the multi-vehicle incident. All four drivers sustained injuries and transported to Marian Regional Medical Center. The northbound driver was airlifted for treatment before being placed under arrest by CHP.
