20-Year-Old Man Dead after Merced Head-On Accident on Highway 59

 
MERCED, CA (January 2, 2024) – A man died in a head-on accident on Highway 59, Tuesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 26, at about 10:47 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a southbound 2019 Jeep SUV veered to the left and collided head-on with a northbound 2020 Freight Line Box Truck near McNamara Road.
 
Emergency crews pronounced the 20-year-old Jeep driver dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck did not sustain injuries. The 54-year-old driver remained and cooperated with investigators.
 
CHP ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
