1 Dead in Fiery 2-Vehicle Collision on Highway 94 in East County
EAST COUNTY, CA (June 16, 2023) — A driver died in a fiery 2-car accident on Highway 94 near Barrett Lake Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the tragic two-vehicle collision happened around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a 27-year-old man driving a westbound sedan traveled onto the dirt shoulder. Subsequently, the driver lost control and spun out into the path of an eastbound Dodge pickup.
The sedan and the Dodge, which was towing a flatbed trailer carrying an SUV, collided.
In the wake of the impact, the sedan caught on fire with the unconscious driver still in the vehicle. The unidentified driver of the Dodge exited his car and tried to rescue the unconscious man from the burning vehicle, but efforts fell short.
Moments later, border patrol officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, but the 27-year-old sedan driver passed away. They also found a 20×20-foot patch of vegetation on fire before putting it out.
Emergency Personnel took the 26-year-old Dodge driver to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
At this time, authorities do not know the factors that led to the accident; however, an investigation into the details should clarify any unanswered questions.
We would like to express our deepest thoughts and sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
