Driver Hospitalized, Roof Collapses at East Street in Tracy

 
TRACY, CA (August 8, 2023) — A driver was injured after a roof collapsed on top of his vehicle at East Street near 20th Street.
 
According to the Tracy Police Department, the incident happened around 4:43 p.m. Saturday. For reasons that require further investigation, a roof collapsed on top of a vehicle as a driver was passing by.
 
Due to the incident, the driver suffered unknown injuries.
 
Soon after, South San Joaquin County Fire Authority responded to learn that there was a catastrophic failure of the overhanging soffit. The soffit did not appear to be sufficient to hold the weight of the roof, which likely led to the accident. In addition, the city building officials stated that there appeared to be some water damage.
 
As the result of the accident, a carniceria and a gym sustained structural damage while other nearby businesses were displaced.
