UPDATE: Diana Chacon Killed, Alex Moreno Arrested for DUI after Crashing into Outdoor Dining Area [San Jose, CA]

Drunk Driver Alex Moreno Backs into San Jose Outdoor Dining Area, Diana Chacon Dies

 
SAN JOSE, CA (June 16, 2021) – On June 11, police arrested a man suspected of drunk driving after he ran into an outdoor dining area outside a bar in San Jose, killing person and injuring two others.
 
35-year-old Diana Prieto Chacon of San Jose was outside Agave Sports Bar and Grill at about 9:00 p.m. in the 500 block of West Alma Avenue. Suddenly, a white full-sized pickup truck traveling in reverse crashed into her and two men.
 
According to San Jose Police Department, 32-year-old San Jose resident Alex Moreno sat in his white Chevrolet Silverado in the restaurant’s parking lot. However, the truck was seen going in reverse and backing up at a high speed, hitting the three patrons.
 
Officials rushed Chacon to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
 
The two other victims are expected to survive. Neither Moreno nor a woman sitting in the truck sustained injuries.
 
After the crash, the driver of the pickup truck — identified as Moreno — was detained by the bar’s security staff. The staff member also tended to the injured victims and cleared a path for responding emergency crews, according to police.
 
Police arrested Moreno and booked him into the county’s Main Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI. Jail records show he is held on $275,000 bail.
 
The truck involved in the crash had side decals for the Benicia-based company Quality Erectors & Construction, Inc. Company CEO Ethan Law said in a statement that Moreno was improperly using the truck when the fatal collision occurred.
