Dean Melavic Dies After Falling Into Silo at Former Holly Sugar Plant on 11th Street

 
TRACY, CA (November 2, 2023) — Dean Melavic died after falling into a silo at the former Holly Sugar Plant on 11th Street.
 
According to the San Joaquin Medical Examiner’s Office, Dean Melavic, of Elk Grove, died in the incident around 10:20 a.m. Monday. For an unknown reason, the 53-year-old man fell more than 80 feet into the silo. Soon after, the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority responded, and 16 personnel worked to extricate the man after developing a rope system to hoist him up. However, Melavic passed away from the accident.
 
At the time of the report, Cal / OSHA did not release information on what led to the incident. However, they are looking into the crash to identify any possible factors.
