Traffic Accident on Highway 49 in Auburn Involving Red Light Runner Seriously Injures CHP Motorcycle Officer
AUBURN, CA (May 7, 2024) – A CHP motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a traffic accident on Highway 49 in Auburn Friday morning on May 3.
Around 6:30 a.m., the CHP officer was on patrol traveling northbound on Highway 49 on his motorcycle and was approaching Shale Ridge Road. At the same time, a vehicle traveling south on Highway 49 ran a red light to eastbound Shale Ridge Road.
That vehicle then crashed into the motorcycle officer.
The impact ejected the officer from his motorcycle and he suffered major injuries. Paramedics took him to a hospital for treatment.
The involved driver admitted to running the red turn light as she was running late for work.
No one was arrested at this time. However, charges could still be pending.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
