Chou Vang Killed after Hit-and-Run Car Runs Red Light in Fresno

 
FRESNO, CA (February 10, 2022) — A man died while his wife suffered critical injuries in a hit-and-run on Maple Avenue at Belmont Avenue on Monday morning.
 
The coroner’s office identified the man as 72-year-old Chou Vang from Fresno.
 
According to Fresno police officers, Vang and his wife drove a Toyota sedan northbound on Maple Avenue through the intersection at Belmont Avenue about 10:50 a.m. A driver headed east on Belmont Avenue ran through a red light in a full-size Chevy pickup truck and slammed into the Toyota, police said.
 
The couple was taken to an area hospital, where Vang was pronounced dead. His wife was described as being in critical condition by authorities.
 
The 29-year-old driver fled north on foot after the accident. Bystanders followed the driver as he ran and helped police locate the driver and take him into custody according to investigators.
