81-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Rancho San Diego
RANCHO SAN DIEGO, CA (September 4, 2024) – Augustine Youhanna was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Rancho San Diego Sunday morning on September 1.
The fatal crash happened around 11:00 a.m. on Highway 54 at Brabham Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, Youhanna was legally crossing west on the highway when a car heading west on Brabham made a right turn onto the northbound highway.
The driver of the car failed to yield to the victim and struck him. He then drove away after the crash and was last seen heading northbound on Highway 54.
Youhanna was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was 81 years old. His family says he was a devout Catholic who was enjoying his Sunday ritual. He was walking home from St. Peter’s Chaldean Church, when the crash happened.
Meanwhile, authorities described the suspect car as a mid-2000s Toyota Corolla with faded gold paint. They also described the hit-and-run driver as a bald man, about 5’5″ and between 150 and 180 pounds.
