17-Year-Old La Grange Woman Dies after Crash with Pickup Truck in Roberts Ferry
ROBERTS FERRY, CA (October 17, 2024) – Abbegail Stoneham died in a two-vehicle accident in the Roberts Ferry community of Stanislaus County Wednesday afternoon on October 16.
The fatal accident happened around 3:00 p.m. on Highway 132, just east of Crab Tree Road, near Waterford. According to the California Highway Patrol, Stoneham was driving a 2001 Toyota sedan eastbound on the highway when she approached a left bend in the road. At the same time, a 1995 Toyota pickup truck was traveling westbound.
For unknown reasons, Stoneham lost control of her car while negotiating the left bend. Her car rotated counterclockwise as it went into westbound traffic, directly into the path of the pickup.
The pickup then struck the back of Stoneham’s sedan, causing it to go onto the north shoulder.
As a result of the crash, Stoneham suffered severe injuries. Paramedics rushed her to Memorial Medical Center, where she later died. She was a 17-year-old La Grange resident.
The 83-year-old and 45-year-old men that occupied the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.
Everyone was wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash.
CHP officials are still investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones and friends of Abbegail Stoneham.
