Fatal Car Crash on 80 Freeway in Placer County

 
PLACER COUNTY, CA (January 5, 2024) — A 76-year-old man and his passenger were injured in a car accident on the 80 Freeway near Rock Springs Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. Due to a medical emergency, a 76-year-old Auburn man driving a Toyota Camry lost control and crashed the vehicle on Interstate 80 near Penryn.
 
Shortly after, his passenger, described as his wife, contacted 911 and informed authorities about their location on the eastbound 80 Freeway at Rock Springs Road. Upon responding, authorities brought the female passenger to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The unidentified driver, however, passed away from a medical emergency.
