7-Year-Old Child Struck, Killed by Train near Avenue 15 1/2 in Madera County
MADERA COUNTY, CA (June 6, 2023) — A 7-year-old boy was hit and killed by a train near Avenue 15 1/2 and Road 29.
According to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, the child left his home and walked onto the tracks. Subsequently, a BNSF Railway heading to Pasco, Wash., from Barstow struck him. The fatal crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies arrived at the scene and found the minor with fatal injuries. Madera County Child Protective Services also responded to the area.
Based on a preliminary investigation, deputies believe the 7-year-old boy wandered from his fenced yard across the street. A passing motorist observed the incident and contacted the authorities. Reports say that both parents of the child were home and fully cooperative with the investigation.
