Passenger Dies after Car Overturns on Statton Road in Lakehead
LAKEHEAD, CA (December 2, 2024) – A woman was killed in a rollover accident on Statton Road in Lakehead Friday morning on November 29.
The fatal accident happened around 11:32 a.m. at Gilman Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Christopher Ainsworth of Lakehead was driving 2001 Jeep Cherokee with the woman as his passenger.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved off the roadway and overturned on its roof.
Ainsworth was able to get himself out of the vehicle, but the woman was trapped in the Jeep where it landed in the water.
Firefighters lifted her out. They tried saving her, but she died at the scene.
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office only identified the woman as a 63-year-old Lakehead resident.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed Ainsworth to Mercy Medical Center for treatment for minor injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the CHP, which is still under investigation.
