5 Hurt, 18-Car Crash on 80 Freeway in Placer County

 
PLACER COUNTY, CA (February 27, 2023) — Five people reported minor injuries in an 18-car accident on the 80 Freeway near Drum Forebay Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle crash happened on the 80 Freeway around 2:30 p.m. Friday. For reasons that require additional investigation, roughly 18 cars crashed on the westbound side of the freeway, leaving five people injured.
 
The five patients suffered minor injuries in the accident, which involved a Cal Fire pickup truck.
 
Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer unit closed the 80 West Freeway at Truckee but the eastbound traffic was open, just delayed.
 
At this time, authorities have not confirmed if the weather had to do with the accident. However, the collision did happen during snow, rain and slick roads.
