Wrong-Way Driver Causes Deadly Pileup on 71 Freeway in Chino Hills

 
CHINO HILLS, CA (March 20, 2023) – Four people were killed in a fiery wrong-way crash on 71 Freeway in Chino Hills early Sunday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on March 19, in the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Central Avenue exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, at least six cars collided with a white 2021 Volvo S60 that entered the wrong side of the freeway.
 
First responders rescued several people trapped inside a burning white sedan. However, they had to back away because of the intense flames.
 
Four people were later pronounced dead at the scene. Another person was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
 
The identities of the deceased victims were not immediately available. Further investigation is underway.
